# Entrancing Contemporary Interiors Songailo's Zen Garden Turns Landscaping Inside-Out and Trippy By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-09-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sam-songailos-zen-garden References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2013/09/20/zen-garden/) & [fontanelle.au](http://www.fontanelle.com.au/sam-songailo-zen-garden/) Sam Songailo's [Zen Garden](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desktop-zen-garden) is far different from what you might expect from such a name. It's been designed indoors under fluorescent lighting and executed with man-made media as opposed to organic matter. There is absolutely no green within this space and the experience of being inside of it is certainly not calming; nevertheless, it's completely enthralling. This [psychedelic scene](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-with-a-lizard) can be found in Adelaide, Australia's Fontanelle Gallery as a dynamic treatment to stark white walls and floors. Rock-like masses were positioned at random across the ground and black paint makes up the most mesmerizing part of the room. Mimicking the [raked-sand pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara) from Japanese gardens, Sam Songailo's Zen Garden features zigzagging lines that extend and bend sharply to captivate the observer completely. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Indoor Landscaping:** Opportunity for businesses to explore the concept of creating captivating landscapes indoors using man-made materials. - **Psychedelic Design:** Innovation opportunity to incorporate bold and trippy elements into interior design, breaking away from traditional calming aesthetics. - **Dynamic Art Installations:** The use of random positioning, bold colors, and unconventional materials to create immersive and enthralling art experiences within gallery spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to embrace unique and captivating design concepts, such as psychedelic elements, in creating innovative and experiential spaces. - **Art Galleries:** Exploration of dynamic and immersive art installations that deviate from traditional norms to offer visitors captivating and mesmerizing experiences. - **Event Spaces:** Incorporation of indoor landscaping and psychedelic design elements in event spaces to create immersive and visually stunning environments for guests. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Zen-Like Shopping Malls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenlike-shopping-mall.md) - [Tranquil Courtyard Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sanctum-house.md) - [Light-Filled City Center Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secret-garden-2.md) - [Japanese Zen Garden-Inspired Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calico-club.md) - [Water-Less Minimal Design Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/botnica.md) - [Miniature Tranquil Garden Playsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metazen.md) - [Tranquil Wellness Studio Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-of-the-soul.md) - [Reflective Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-caviar.md)
