The mat was created for Nodus and comprises an abstract shape and a smaller overlapping add-on. The extra piece can act as a simple extension, and better yet, it can even become a seat of its own. A really comfy carpet can take you away from sitting in even the [plushiest couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko), and this [unusual home accessory](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun) supplies a backrest for sitters should they so desire. The sail-like component of the Sail Rug by Luca Nichetto can lean against a wall, or stand up on its own to act as a room divider. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Customizable Area Rugs:** Designing area rugs with modular components can provide more creative options for customers and potentially disrupt the traditional rug market. - **Multi-functional Home Accessories:** Incorporating additional features such as seating into home accessories like area rugs can expand their usefulness and offer unique selling points for retailers. - **Sustainable Rug Materials:** With an increasing focus on sustainable and eco-friendly products, using environmentally conscious materials to create area rugs can attract environmentally conscious consumers and disrupt the rug industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The use of modular and multi-functional components in area rugs could provide a unique selling point for retailers and help them stand out in the highly competitive home decor market. - **Furniture:** Incorporating innovative features like seating into area rugs could offer furniture retailers new opportunities to diversify their product offerings and provide customers with new and exciting design options. - **Sustainability:** By using sustainable materials in their production, rug manufacturers can appeal to environmentally conscious consumers and differentiate themselves from competitors in the industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artful Versatile Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanimarquina.md) - [Sculptural Seating Carpets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rondin.md) - [Cross-Cultural Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nordic-knots-x-giancarlo-valle-rug-collection.md) - [Lifestyle-Themed Patterned Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quotidiana.md) - [Luxurious Handwoven Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crate-barrel.md) - [Opulent Area Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winter-collection-1.md) - [Exquisite Textured Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug.md) - [Repurposed Runway-Style Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunnei-4.md) - [Season-Inspired Rug Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistic-rug-range.md)
