# Empowering Safety Apps Girl+ Gives Women Peace of Mind with a Mobile Panic Button By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2015-03-30 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safety-app References: [rappler](http://www.rappler.com/views/imho/87899-girl-plus-mobile-protection-app) & [play.google](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.unlocknload.girlplus) Girl+ is a safety app designed for women that helps them to quickly get help if they feel that they are in danger. There are several ways that a woman can go about this, including pressing a [panic button](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-safety-alarm) that will emit a loud, high-pitched sound if they feel threatened, or a button that will call and connect them to the [women trafficking hotline](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-durex-blocker). Rather than wearing a whistle or having to carry around some sort of weapon for protection, once downloaded, this app takes over as the phone's lock screen, serving as a quick and low-key way for females to call out for help if needed. As well as these features that could potentially be life-saving, the app also has content to empower women in other ways. Lock screen notifications provide women with links to articles on [safety, empowerment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/personal-safety-technology), as well as career opportunities to further inspire. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 2% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Safety Apps for Women:** Developing innovative safety apps specifically designed for women, such as Girl+, presents an opportunity to address their unique safety concerns and empower them. - **Panic Button Technology:** Integrating panic button functionality into mobile apps, as seen in Girl+, can revolutionize personal safety by providing discreet and immediate help in emergency situations. - **Empowerment-focused Content:** Incorporating empowerment-focused content within safety apps, like the articles and career opportunities in Girl+, can enhance the overall user experience and offer additional value to women. ### Where This Applies - **Mobile App Development:** The mobile app development industry can capitalize on the growing demand for safety apps by creating user-friendly and feature-rich platforms that cater specifically to women's safety needs. - **Personal Security & Safety:** The personal security and safety industry can explore partnerships with app developers to incorporate panic button technology into existing security solutions, expanding the reach and effectiveness of their products. - **Gender Empowerment:** Organizations focusing on gender empowerment can collaborate with safety app developers to provide valuable content, resources, and career opportunities, fostering self-confidence and independence for women. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Personal Safety Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/just-n-case.md) - [Woman-Focused E-Hailing Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kgosigadi-rides.md) - [Emergency Alert Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/protechme.md) - [Connected Personal Safety Alarms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pom-safe.md) - [Family Safety Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/family-safety-app.md) - [Anti-Stalking App Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tile.md) - [Personal Security Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/protector-app.md) - [Personal Safety Applications](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/citizen-app.md) - [Emergency Distress Signals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sos-light-app.md)
