As the project describes, the "tethered soft exosuit can reduce the metabolic cost of running on a treadmill by 5.4% compared to not wearing the exosuit." The exosuit works by applying additional force to the hip joint, which helps to improve one's stride. As the teams see it, this robotic suit has the potential to improve the performance of recreational athletes, as well as assist with the recovery process following an injury. Across multiple industries, exosuits are being used to improve mobility in the elderly, give employees tasked with [physical labor additional strength](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wearable-robot1) and much more. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Smart Running Exosuits:** The development of smart, robotic running suits that can significantly boost performance offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the fitness industry. - **Recreational Athlete Performance Enhancement:** The use of robotic running suits to improve the performance of recreational athletes presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the sports and recreation industry. - **Assistive Technology for Injury Recovery:** The application of robotic running suits for assisting with the recovery process following an injury creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the healthcare and rehabilitation industry. ### Where This Applies - **Fitness:** The development of smart, robotic running suits that can significantly boost performance offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the fitness industry. - **Sports and Recreation:** The use of robotic running suits to improve the performance of recreational athletes presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the sports and recreation industry. - **Healthcare and Rehabilitation:** The application of robotic running suits for assisting with the recovery process following an injury creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the healthcare and rehabilitation industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Smart Stride-Assisting Wearables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hurotics-hfit.md) - [Consumer-Ready Exoskeletons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enhanced-robotics-sportsmate5.md) - [State-Of-The-Art Exoskeleton Technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exoskeleton-technology.md) - [All-Terrain AI Exoskeletons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypershell.md) - [Portable Trail-Ready Exoskeletons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypershell-omega.md) - [Assistive Upper-Body Exoskeletons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upperbody-exoskeleton.md) - [Robotic Brace Walking Shoes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nike-project-amplify.md) - [Rehabilitative Robotic Suits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/h-medi-pro.md) - [Physical Augmentation Exoskeletons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dnsys-x1-exoskeleton.md)
