# Retractable Ruler Redesigns The Duplo Ruler Design Extends and Retracts For Simpler Measuring By M | Published 2014-08-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ruler-design References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/08/19/rethinking-the-ruler/) & [behance.net](https://www.behance.net/gartinat) The Duplo ruler design by Serbian innovator Snežana Jeremić looks like a regular ruler until you pick it up to use it. Divided up into two colored sections, the one side of the ruler has the ability to extend and retract making it super easy for [designers, architects and engineers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archiscale) to [measure and draw](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/screen-ruler1). Most rulers are designed to be a rectangular unit with numbers along the side that consumers can use to measure objects and plot lines. The Duplo ruler keeps this familiar concept and simply redesigns the functionality of the ruler so that it is more practical for everyday use. The black part of the ruler stays put while the yellow side portion has the ability to slide around and snap into position making it easier to remember measurements. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Versatile Measuring Tools:** Innovations in tools and instruments that provide novel solutions to measuring challenges. - **Flexible and Retractable Designs:** Innovations in flexible and retractable designs of everyday objects to optimize usability. - **Hybrid Objects:** New objects that merge two or more functions to reduce clutter and optimize space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Design:** Innovative tools and instruments that are specifically designed for architects and designers to simplify measurements and drawings. - **Engineering:** Innovations in measuring tools that meet the specific requirements of engineers to make complex measurements simpler and more efficient. - **Consumer Goods:** New products that merge functionalities, such as the Duplo ruler, might disrupt traditional single-purpose tools and become more appealing to consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Design Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoruler.md) - [Magnifying Measurement Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fun-sizes-ruler.md) - [Curvaceous Analog Designer Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rulerc-concept.md) - [Rolling Portable Measuring Tapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neorulergo.md) - [Hybrid Angled Stationary Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/25-ruler.md) - [Multifunctional Angular Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler-set.md) - [Haute Hybrid Designer Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotio-compass-and-ruler.md) - [Sleek Rounded Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enso-tape.md) - [Geometric Dynamic Stationary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler.md)
