# Suspension Rug Huts Rughut Mat Transforms from Floor Covering to Personal Space By Katie Cordrey | Published 2010-01-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rughut-myung-jieun References: [picocool](http://picocool.com/design/rughut-rug-###-hut/) & [red-dot.sg](http://www.red-dot.sg/concept/porfolio/o_e/IA/R077.htm) The Rughut by Myung Jieun is an interior rug that doubles as a [cozy hut](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-never-hut). The hut is formed when the rug is drawn up by pulling on an orange colored elastic cord. Once it's gathered into a hut shape, the colored cord is fastened to a ceiling hook to keep everything in place. Kids would love this as a [fort or playhouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deya-day-care), and can play on the [radial-shaped mat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/softblock-rug) when the fort is not suspended. The Rughut received the Red Dot Award for Design Concept 2009. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 8% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Convertible Interior Products:** The Rughut demonstrates the trend of interior products that can transform from one function to another, providing versatile and multi-purpose solutions for consumers. - **Personalized Space:** The Rughut taps into the trend of creating personal spaces within larger environments, allowing individuals to have a private and cozy area even in shared spaces. - **Multi-functional Textiles:** The Rughut exemplifies the trend of textiles that serve multiple purposes, blurring the line between traditional floor coverings and interactive play structures. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** The Rughut presents an opportunity for interior design professionals to explore innovative ways of creating transformative and personalized elements within living spaces. - **Children's Play Equipment:** The Rughut offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for the children's play equipment industry by combining traditional playhouses with interactive rugs, enhancing imaginative play experiences. - **Home Decor and Furnishings:** The Rughut opens up possibilities for the home decor and furnishings industry to reimagine traditional floor coverings as versatile and functional elements that can adapt to different needs and preferences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Textile Igloo Bedrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/takk.md) - [Desert Dune-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nando-studio.md) - [Experimental Shelter Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grayhus.md) - [Transforming Imaginative Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kiddie-couch.md) - [Wooden Structural Outdoor Bedes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hut-lounge-bed.md) - [Rippled Modular Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puffa-furniture.md) - [Nature-Inspired Modular Pouf Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apego.md) - [Exquisite Textured Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug.md) - [Sculptural Seating Carpets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rondin.md)
