This clever and inconspicuous item behaves as a [floor covering and a seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat) in one. YOY of Japan gave this area rug a concealed structure of 1cm thick aluminum that was then covered in elastic fabric and polyester. The stretchy material moves with the malleable metal as the user curls the carpet up from one side. Bend the Rug Chair over as if you're attempting to fold it in half, and the structure will stop stiffly with a [C-shaped profile](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ruffini). In this position, the eccentric seat is able to support the weight of one person, with her reading materials stashed beneath. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 41% | Activity: 90% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Hybrid Furnishings:** The concept of combining different types of furniture into one piece opens up opportunities for innovative and space-saving designs. - **Concealed Structures:** Concealing structural elements within furniture allows for a seamless and minimalist aesthetic, while maintaining functionality. - **Stretchy Materials:** Using stretchy materials in furniture design provides flexibility and adaptability, allowing for unique and customizable user experiences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore innovative ways to create versatile and multi-functional pieces. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can leverage concealed structures to create visually appealing and functional spaces. - **Textile Manufacturing:** The textile manufacturing industry can develop stretchy materials that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing for furniture applications. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Seating Carpets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rondin.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Comforting Adaptable Sofa Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-bird-reincarnation-3way-sofa-bed.md) - [Cinnamon Roll-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bun-bun-chair.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Adventurous Versatile Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat.md) - [Desert Dune-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nando-studio.md) - [Dual-Function Seating Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubik-stool.md)
