It is the work of Israeli industrial designer Ruthy Shafrir. The shelving unit is shipped as a pile of cardboard or aluminum sheets, with the pieces needing to be [slotted together](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf) to form an array of triangular and [hexagonal shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airhive). The assembly takes about 5 minutes and doesn't require any special tools. The honeycomb-style structure of the Ruche shelf means it is extremely versatile and can be used for holding anything for toilet rolls in the bathroom to shoes by your front door to drinks in your home bar. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Cardboard Furniture:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating pieces of home and office furniture from cardboard instead of traditional materials. - **Modular Shelving:** Potential for disruptive innovation in creating modular shelving units that can be easily assembled and customized to fit any space. - **Honeycomb Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in applying the honeycomb structure to products other than shelving units, such as lighting fixtures or decor items. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore using cardboard as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional materials. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can create customizable shelving units that can be easily assembled and disassembled to fit any living space. - **Lighting Design:** Lighting designers can experiment with applying the honeycomb structure to their products, creating unique and visually interesting lighting fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Modular Configuration Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repisa-01.md) - [Folding Steel Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md)
