The artist doesn't try to hide this fact at all. Instead of artistically rending the rubber material into a realistic depiction of a tree, ter Horst keeps each tire intact to show exactly where the material came from.

Rubbertree by Marc ter Horst was designed for the Make a Forest project, which "is a creative response to the need to [preserve trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funeral-for-a-tree) and change the way we think about dealing with our environment, locally and globally, in a sustainable and conscious way," according to the Type-B website.
