Japanese designer Rie Sakamoto is calling attention to stationery items with "overlooked qualities" with her [rubber band garments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/replica-suit). The [knitted silhouettes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arty-knitwear) are made as part of the creative's thesis project for Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan and were presented to the public at a group graduate exhibition in January of this year.

The rubber band garment collection includes a dress and a jacket, entirely made out of a singular elastic material. While the clothing is not ideal for everyday wear, the project is aesthetically driven and it establishes regular, everyday objects as a medium for art.

Rie Sakamoto's garments are rich in texture and feel. The stretchy quality of the bands allows them to "morph to different body shapes and sizes."
