# Art Inspired by Sleep Tory Faris' Rubber Casting By Going Like Sixty | Published 2008-11-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubber-art-tory-fair-uses-sleep-as-creative-process References: [drawingcenter.org](http://www.drawingcenter.org/viewingprogram/portfolio.cfm) Tory Fair gets his best ideas while driving, sleeping, walking, and bathing… not unlike the rest of us. Where this artist is different from you and I is that he integrates his “best idea” surroundings into a [series of pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sculptures) that reflect his connection to the environments that prompt his artistic nature. He also works in a fairly unusual medium: [cast rubber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-scad). (I added a couple of interesting frames made of rubber to the gallery.) I need inspiration, so I think I’ll go take a nap. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.6/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sleep-inspired Art:** Opportunity for artists to create innovative artworks inspired by sleep and dreams. - **Environmental Influence in Art:** Exploration of how artists can incorporate their surroundings and personal experiences into their artwork, sparking disruptive innovation in the art industry. - **Unconventional Art Mediums:** Potential for artists to experiment with alternative materials like cast rubber, opening up new possibilities and pushing boundaries in the art world. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** Artists have the potential to disrupt the traditional art industry by incorporating sleep-inspired themes and using unconventional mediums to create innovative pieces. - **Home Decor:** There is an opportunity for the home decor industry to showcase and embrace sleep-inspired art pieces, providing unique and captivating options for consumers who want distinct decor items. - **Wellness and Mental Health:** Sleep-inspired art can play a role in the wellness and mental health industry, offering therapeutic and introspective pieces that promote relaxation, introspection, and connection with one's inner self. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Fluid Basketball-Net Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pools-and-bubblegum.md) - [Candy-Inspired Laminated Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/n90n.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Squishy Clay-Made Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-soil-daybed.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Perception-Challenging Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/becoming-familiar.md)
