# Hollowed Log Ledges This Rounded Magazine Rack Has Been Designed Like Half of a Smooth Timber Beam By Amelia Roblin | Published 2015-01-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rounded-magazine-rack References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/consumer_product/managing_those_magazines_28145.asp) & [balzar.se](http://www.balzar.se/en/3186/forvaring/pipe-magasin/) Those with large magazine collections may not have considered the possibilities of [wall storage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/velto). This rounded magazine rack would enable the avid reader to clear off tables and shelves and to avoid filling floor-bound holders with so many journals and periodicals inside. Tim Alpen's design for Balzar Beskow embodies outside-of-the-box thought, despite the common tendancy to create rigid furnishings intended for stashing rectilinear items. Called the Pipe Magazine Rack, this piece resembles a carefully sanded wooden log that's been halved and hollowed out. A slot along its length provides a place to slip reading materials within. Another version of this rounded magazine rack has the majority of the front removed, providing a place to tuck in books, and hooks to hang garments, accessories and decorations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Wall Storage:** The trend of utilizing wall storage provides an opportunity for innovative designs, such as rounded magazine racks. - **Organizational Furniture:** The trend of creating unique and functional storage solutions opens up opportunities for inventive designs, like the hollowed log ledge magazine rack. - **Multi-functional Pieces:** The trend of combining different functionalities into one item offers a chance for disruptive innovation, like magazine racks with additional hooks and storage spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Home Organization:** The home organization industry can capitalize on the trend of wall storage by creating innovative and versatile storage products like rounded magazine racks. - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore disruptive innovations by creating unique and unconventional pieces, such as the hollowed log ledge magazine rack. - **Interior Decor:** The interior decor industry can embrace multi-functional pieces and incorporate them into design trends, such as rounded magazine racks with hooks for hanging garments and accessories. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tubular Literature Storage Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interspace-magazine-rack.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Modernized Old-Fashioned Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/union-side-table.md) - [Sleek Wall Organizer Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mdf-boards.md) - [Minimalist Book Storage Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-coffee-table.md) - [Tripod-Like Garment Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-coat-rack.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Bookcase-Equipped Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/low-wall-side-table.md) - [Personality-Enhancing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ordo-book.md)
