# Paradoxically Intersecting Roofs Roof House's Angled Roofs Merge in Seemingly Impossible Ways By Joey Haar | Published 2017-05-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roof-house References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/05/24/sigurd-larsen-roof-house-intersecting-monopitched-blocks-architecture-copenhagen-denmark/) & [sigurdlarsen](http://sigurdlarsen.com/project/roof-house-dk/) Sigurd Larsen's [Roof House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/four-roof-house) looks like a fictional structure out of the imagination of MC Escher, but the home is very much real. As its name suggests, by far its most striking aspect is its roof -- or, more accurately, its [series of interconnected roofs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ridge-house). Roof House is made up of a single volume, but the various rooms and hallways within the home each have ceiling angles that are different from one another. On the exterior, this results in a baffling crisscross of slanted rooftops perpendicular to and overlapping with one another. The paradoxical design is aesthetically interesting, but it has a very simple practical purpose. By altering the angles of the roof sections, different areas of Roof House get [direct natural light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foksal) from a sunlight at different times of the day. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Paradoxical Roof Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore unconventional and intersecting roof designs to create visually striking architecture with practical benefits. - **Multi-dimensional Living Spaces:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design homes with rooms and hallways that have distinct angles, creating unique and dynamic living environments. - **Optimizing Natural Light:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop techniques for altering roof angles to maximize natural light in different areas of buildings throughout the day. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Architects can experiment with unconventional roof designs to push the boundaries of traditional architecture and create unique structures. - **Real Estate:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Real estate developers can market homes with multi-dimensional living spaces as a unique selling point, offering customers a distinct and dynamic living experience. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Interior designers can work with architects to optimize natural light in homes by strategically arranging furniture and decor to complement changing natural lighting conditions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Upward-Pitched Roof Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oneill-mcvoy-architects.md) - [Pyramid-Like Suburban Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oza-sabbeth-architects.md) - [Math Equation-Inspired Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-countless-windows.md) - [Pyramidal Roof Steel-Framed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saltmarsh-house.md) - [Dynamic Y-Shaped Glazed Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-y-house.md) - [Staggered Floor Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-seven-floors.md) - [Geometric Structural Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/c-house.md) - [Intersecting Block-Formed Narrow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-fujidera.md) - [Gabled Split Trapezoidal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-trapzios.md)
