# Plain Plywood Seating The ROLU Chair Collection is Inspired by 'Found Design' By Meghan Young | Published 2010-09-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rolu-chair-collection References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/plain_is_best_rolus_series_of_osb_and_plywood_chairs__17420.asp) & [osmonds.info](http://osmonds.info/rolu2/) The ROLU chair collection is plain and simple, but also strangely eye-catching. Made entirely out of [plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/layup-chair), the collection focuses on the lines that can be created, forming [interesting silhouettes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pere-chair) that make each chair unique. Heavily influenced by [found design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collective-collection), the each piece in the ROLU chair collection is accompanied by 'found text.' For instance, the text for the Chair Ply reads, "The power to stimulate the creative treasures. And so the ROLU pilgrimage guide!" ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Plywood Furniture:** The trend towards using plywood in furniture design presents opportunities for innovative and cost-effective pieces. - **Minimalist Design:** The ROLU chair collection showcases the rise of minimalist design, offering a sleek and timeless aesthetic for modern interiors. - **Found Object Inspiration:** Incorporating 'found text' and design elements from everyday objects opens up opportunities for unconventional and thought-provoking designs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers can capitalize on the growing demand for plywood furniture by exploring innovative production techniques and creating customizable options. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage the popularity of minimalist design to create functional spaces that prioritize simplicity and clean lines. - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can incorporate found objects and texts into their work, blurring the line between traditional design and artistic expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artful Plywood Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bla-station.md) - [Plywood Sculptural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mt-chair.md) - [Haute Cohesive Plywood Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peel-chair-by-blond.md) - [Chic Single-Piece Plywood Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/void-lounge-chair.md) - [Plywood Furniture Collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/join-collection.md) - [Simplistically Elegant Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dopio.md) - [Striped Down Dimensional Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ron-arad-1.md) - [Suitcase Sheet Metal Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoprimitive-chair.md) - [Flatpack Single-Piece Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaning-chair-set.md)
