Lee Hwa-yeon and Park Chan-ju have developed an idea for a [compact measuring tool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enso-tape) that is portable and computerized for the convenience of youngsters and working adults alike. With a length less than that of an A4 sheet of paper, the Smart Rolling Ruler would surprisingly be able to measure infinite distances. A system of conveyor-belt-like wheels enables the gadget to crawl along consistently, displaying a live virtual scroll of passing unit markings. This touchscreen keeps reading ranges and can record your results. The rolling digital ruler can then be used as a [calculator with a built-in unit converter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ipad-calculator). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Smart Measuring Tools:** The development of compact and computerized measuring tools is disrupting traditional analog rulers and accelerates mathematics practices. - **Portable Technology:** The rise of portable and touchscreen devices in measuring tools provides convenience and flexibility for both students and working professionals. - **Integrated Functionality:** The integration of measuring, recording, and calculating functions in a single device eliminates the need for multiple tools and streamlines the measurement process. ### Where This Applies - **Education Technology:** The smart measuring tools present opportunities for innovation and integration within the education technology industry, enhancing mathematics education and student engagement. - **Consumer Electronics:** The development of portable and touchscreen measuring tools opens up new possibilities for consumer electronics companies to create innovative gadgets with integrated measurement capabilities. - **Architectural and Engineering:** The compact and accurate digital rulers offer disruptive innovation opportunities for the architectural and engineering industry, improving precision and efficiency in designing and measuring. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Design Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoruler.md) - [Smart Measuring Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hozos-neorulergo.md) - [Titanium EDC Rolling Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiroler-20.md) - [Magnifying Measurement Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fun-sizes-ruler.md) - [Curvaceous Analog Designer Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rulerc-concept.md) - [Multifunctional Angular Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler-set.md) - [Magnetic Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tisolver.md) - [Geometric Dynamic Stationary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hexagonal-ruler.md) - [Digital Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lidar.md)
