# Tilting Switch Lamps Ed Heritage Designs the Roll and Tilt Lamp With Unique Activation By Amy Duong | Published 2018-08-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rollandtiltlamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2018/08/28/when-lamp-and-switch-become-one/) & [ed-heritage](https://www.ed-heritage.com/) Designer Ed Heritage designs the new Roll and Tilt lamp that delivers a unique interactive activation process. The lighting system does not have an on and off switch implemented as the entire piece acts as an activation switch itself. The design structure functions as a seesaw and tilts backward and forward to turn on and off. When the side of the illumination touches the base foundation, it lights up -- when it leans backward off the base, then it switches off. This challenges the conceptual norm of a lamp switch that can interfere with design details -- the Roll and Tilt lamp by Ed Heritage offers a much more [playful approach of illumination](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toto-lamp) to any given space. The lighting system boasts a monochromatic color scheme to be versatile in many settings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 84% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Interactive Activation Lamps:** The development of lamps with unique interactive activation processes without traditional on and off switches offers disruptive innovation opportunities. - **Playful Lighting Designs:** The development of playful lighting designs that challenge conceptual norms opens up opportunities for disruptive innovation in the lighting industry. - **Monochromatic Color Schemes:** The use of monochromatic color schemes in lighting design introduces disruptive innovation opportunities in creating versatile lighting systems. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can benefit from developing innovative and playful lighting designs with unique activation processes. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate lighting systems with non-traditional on and off switches like the Roll and Tilt lamp to add a playful touch to their designs. - **Home Decor:** The development of the Roll and Tilt lamp with a monochromatic color scheme offers disruptive innovation opportunities in producing versatile and stylized decorative lighting for homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tap-tap-table-lamp.md) - [Tiltable Dimmable Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nod-lamp.md) - [Touch-Enhanced Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolita.md) - [Reversible Glass Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jal.md) - [Flippable Solar Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomad-3.md) - [Foldable Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp.md) - [Compact Geometric Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pivot-lamp.md) - [Minimal Wake-Aware Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wake-sleep-light.md) - [Artistic Magnetic Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scacco-matto-lamp.md)
