# Revolving Cylindrical Abodes The 'Roll It' Experimental House Offers a Fresh Take on Modern Homes By Matt Ho | Published 2011-07-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roll-it-experimental-house References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/roll-it-experimental-house/19371/) & [detail.de](http://www.detail.de/artikel_roll-it_25050_De.htm) The 'Roll It' Experimental House is probably one of the strangest and most interesting homes that I've ever seen. Students Christian Zwick and Konstantin Jerabek from the [University of Karlsruhe](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/research-centre) in Germany were the ones who designed the unique [Roll It Experimental House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-lighting-fixtures). The whole concept behind this one-of-a-kind abode according to the two was to explore "mobile and space-efficient construction." The cylindrical home functions differently depending on the position that you roll it in. Turn it one degree and it functions as a workspace, turn it to another and it acts as a bedroom. There's even a space for a washroom -- just make sure the other person isn't looking. The Roll It Experimental House is an interesting concept that truly defines the idea of [compact living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Mobile Construction:** Exploring new techniques and designs for mobile and efficient construction. - **Adaptive Living Spaces:** Designing living spaces that can adapt to different needs and preferences. - **Compact Housing:** Developing innovative solutions for compact and space-efficient housing. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Construction:** The construction industry can capitalize on mobile and efficient designs to create homes and buildings that are easy to construct and customize. - **Real Estate:** Real estate professionals can offer unique and innovative living solutions to clients who are looking for compact and adaptive housing options. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can embrace the challenge of creating functional and stylish living spaces in small and unique structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Economical Modular Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cake-house.md) - [Mechanical Legged Mobile Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobile-home-concept.md) - [Recycled Material Mobile Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contihome.md) - [Portable Wheel-Based Green Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-house-of-wheels.md) - [Curved Translucent Experimental Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptors-apartment.md) - [Integrated Engine Off-Roading Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubishack.md) - [Origami-Inspired Sleek Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinity-mobile-architecture-system.md) - [Privacy Enhanced Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-open-house-1.md) - [Circular Rolling Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rolly-bar-cart.md)
