# Pocket-Sized Vinyl Players The 'RokBlok' Plays Vinyls by Running in Circles Over Them By Joey Haar | Published 2016-12-06 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokblok References: [techcrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2016/12/05/the-clever-absurd-rokblok-rides-your-vinyls-grooves-like-a-hipster-race-car/?ncid=rss) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pinkdonut/rokblok-a-new-spin-on-vinyl) The RokBlok is a revolution in the world of vinyl on par with Einstein's revelatory scientific discoveries. In the early 20th century, Einstein came up with the concept of time and space as relative concepts. Now, the RokBlok brings relativity to vinyl. With every other record player on the market, the concept is straightforward: the player uses a motor to rotate the vinyl, thus causing the stationary stylus to play the music embedded in the grooves. But as long as one of those bodies moves relative to the other, music will still play. RokBlok reverses the movement, causing the stylus as well as the entire record player to move over the stationary vinyl. To play music with RokBlok, conusmers simply place it on top of a vinyl, set the stylus into the vinyl's groove, and activate it. RokBlok will then drive around the vinyl at the right speed (either 45 or 33 1/2 RPM.) ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Mobile Vinyl Players:** The RokBlok introduces a new trend of portable vinyl players that can be easily taken anywhere. - **Innovative Record Player Technology:** The RokBlok presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for record player technology with its unique movement and playback method. - **Reviving Vinyl Culture:** The RokBlok contributes to the trend of reviving vinyl culture, making it more accessible and appealing to a new generation. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Consumer electronics companies can explore the development of miniaturized vinyl players like the RokBlok to cater to the growing demand for portable music devices. - **Audio Equipment Manufacturing:** Audio equipment manufacturers can incorporate innovative record player technologies, such as the movement mechanism of the RokBlok, into their products to differentiate themselves in the market. - **Music Retail:** Music retailers can capitalize on the revival of vinyl culture by offering a variety of vinyl records and portable vinyl players like the RokBlok to attract vinyl enthusiasts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vertical Vinyl Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vs01-bluetooth-vertical-turntable.md) - [Elegant Upright Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blok-turntable.md) - [Vertical Space-Saving Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-vinyl-record-player.md) - [Connected Portable Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-bluetooth-record-player.md) - [Visceral Record Turntables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-kinetic.md) - [Retro-Modern Turntable Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-turntable-concept.md) - [Omni-Position Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-wheel-turntable.md) - [Portable Compact Vinyl Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aurex-axrp10.md) - [Metallic Architectural Record Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rytm.md)
