# Slotted Slab Washbasins The Rodi Freestanding Sink Rises as an Asymmetrical Sculpture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-02-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rodi-freestanding-sink References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Rodi/6895969) & [tommasobistacchi](http://www.tommasobistacchi.com/rodi.html) It may take a person with an eclectic sense of style to truly appreciate the Rodi Freestanding Sink. The magnificent [Carrara](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solid-table-light) marble would appeal to the lover of classical design while the formal execution would tempt the contemporary enthusiast. Someone with an admiration for both of these styles would find it to be a striking addition to her home bathroom. Tommaso Bistacchi began with a pair of [white marble slabs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terra-frammenti) as his primary building blocks for this piece. Hardly thicker than an inch each, the divinely veiny components are placed perpendicularly with the vertical edge of one extending slightly beyond their meeting. Together, the Rodi Freestanding Sink's stones incline subtly but noticeably, causing the basin's [flat glass bottom](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archiplan-compact-basin-collection) to tilt and direct water towards the hidden drain. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Asymmetrical Design:** There is a trend towards incorporating asymmetrical design in home fixtures, such as the Rodi Freestanding Sink, which presents opportunities for designers to create unique and unconventional products. - **Combining Classic and Contemporary Styles:** The Rodi Freestanding Sink combines classical Carrara marble with a formal and contemporary execution, indicating a trend towards merging different design styles in home decor. - **Innovations in Bathroom Fixtures:** The Rodi Freestanding Sink showcases innovative and unconventional ideas for bathroom fixtures, suggesting a trend towards pushing the boundaries of traditional bathroom design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Decor:** The trend towards combining classic and contemporary styles in home fixtures presents opportunities for companies in the home decor industry to innovate and create unique products. - **Interior Design:** Asymmetrical design and unconventional bathroom fixtures, such as the Rodi Freestanding Sink, provide opportunities for interior designers to push the boundaries of traditional design and create remarkable spaces. - **Marble Industry:** The use of Carrara marble in the Rodi Freestanding Sink highlights opportunities for the marble industry to expand its uses by collaborating with designers to create innovative and unconventional products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ultra-Modern Freestanding Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freestanding-sink.md) - [Angular Ceramic Sink Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/angle-washbasin.md) - [Textural Bathroom Sink Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washbasin-collection.md) - [Dynamic Marble Sink Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinito.md) - [Collaborative Seashell-Like Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spire-washbasin.md) - [Artful Artisanal Marble Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handchiseled-marble-basin.md) - [Slick Bathroom Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slick-bathroom-sink.md) - [Sculptural 3D-Printed Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-printed-sink.md) - [Museum-Like Bathroom Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/face-face-bathroom-collection.md)
