# Oscillating Sideways Seats The Rocking Verner Reorients an Iconic Chair for a New Playful Design By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocking-verner References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2013/11/28/a-rocking-horse-with-roots/) & [davidschellander](http://www.davidschellander.com/projects/rocking-verner/) Take a close look at the Rocking Verner -- do you notice anything unusual about it? Perhaps the [contemporary rocking chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espattio-platero-rocking-table) seems to embody an abstract sculptural form, but tilt your head 90 degrees and you will discern the fluid form of the [famous Panton Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panton-chair). David Schellander and Stefanie Richtsfeld endeavored to incorporate the familiar seat into a fresh and modern [rocking horse design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pony). They tipped the piece onto its front and mounted it on a pair of long and elegant timber rockers and provided a wooden back brace with a handle. The new seat of the Rocking Verner is a fabric sling that's been fixed between the original chair's footing and the top of the backrest. Despite the technique of appropriation, this object exudes uniqueness. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Reimagined Iconic Designs:** The use of familiar designs in new and modern ways allows for fresh and unique products. - **Playful Furniture Designs:** Designers are incorporating fun and whimsical elements into furniture pieces for added functionality and enjoyment. - **Innovative Rocking Mechanisms:** New and unconventional ways of incorporating rocking motions into furniture are becoming more popular. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** There are opportunities for furniture designers to incorporate elements of playfulness and innovation into their designs. - **Home Decor:** Consumers are looking for home decor options that are both functional and unique, allowing for opportunities to create new and playful designs. - **Childcare and Education:** Incorporating elements of playfulness into furniture can also benefit the healthcare and education industries by providing fun and engaging options for children. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [All-Direction Wobbling Rocking Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbling-rocking-chair.md) - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [Geometric Rocking Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair.md) - [Fabric-Wrapped Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zhe-rocking-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Pouffe Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/platero.md) - [Functional Decorative Rocking Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rool-stool.md)
