# Swaying Slug-Like Seating The Rocking Animal Marks an Insectile Evolution from the Typical Horse By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-04-01 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocking-animal References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Rocking-Animal/6115761) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Rocking-Animal/6115761) The '[rocking horse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair)' might be the most recognizable type of [children's oscillating seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pony), but there is no real need for the plaything to take an equine form. The Enko Rocking Animal sheds the familiar long nose, neck, tail and legs for a body that's shaped rather like a kidney bean. Designers Mathieu Douadi and Nicolas Laghetti collaborated on this little domestic ride, creating a shape that still maintains an animated look. The curved form seems to embody a set of four little feet, a belly and a pair of ears or antennae at one end. The Enko Rocking Animal sways back and forth over its rounded stomach while the sitting kid straddles its sunken center. The [wood and plastic piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/totto-step) offers stability in its frame, as well as a place for the rider to hold on. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Alpha - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/toys) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Innovative Children's Seating:** The Enko Rocking Animal offers a new and unique form of oscillating seat for children. - **Nontraditional Animal-inspired Designs:** The Enko Rocking Animal demonstrates a trend in moving away from traditional rocking horse designs. - **Integration of Wood and Plastic Materials:** The combination of wood and plastic in the Enko Rocking Animal presents new opportunities for design in furniture and toy manufacturing. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Companies in the furniture manufacturing industry can explore new designs and materials for oscillating children's seating. - **Toy Manufacturing:** The Enko Rocking Animal presents an opportunity for companies in the toy manufacturing industry to create nontraditional animal-inspired designs for children's toys. - **Product Design and Development:** There is potential for product designers to collaborate with manufacturers to create more innovative and unique children's seating options such as the Enko Rocking Animal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Structural Rocking Horses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocking-horse-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Playground-Inspired Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swing-seat.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Functional Decorative Rocking Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rool-stool.md) - [Youth-Ready Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ready-rocker-1.md) - [All-Ages Portable Rockers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ready-rocker.md) - [All-Direction Wobbling Rocking Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbling-rocking-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Pouffe Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/platero.md)
