# Variable Street Benches 'Urban Adapter' by Rocker-Lange Architects is Based on a Parametric Model By Katherinev123 | Published 2011-08-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocker-lange-architects References: [evolo.us](http://www.evolo.us/architecture/new-parametric-urban-street-furniture-for-hong-kong/) & [rocker-lange](http://rocker-lange.com/) Rocker-Lange Architects has designed an innovative model, called 'Urban Adapter,' for the design of [public benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-furniture-concept) in Hong Kong. As its name suggests, this street seating model is based on a digital parametric model that enables the creation of various seating solutions to accommodate different parts of the city. Thus, rather than being a standard design, each 'Urban Adapter' bench by Rocker-Lange Architects will not be the same, but dependent on specific criteria as well as specific site information and needs. According to Evolvo, the 'Urban Adapter' model's DNA structure is capable of producing a variety of unique furniture results. Further, the model by Rocker-Lange Architects allows for different benches to have different values and functions added (although each bench will still serve primarily as a public seat). For instance, some benches will feature [flower buckets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planter-300), billboards or [recycling containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leftover-bench). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Parametric Design:** The 'Urban Adapter' model demonstrates the disruptive innovation potential of parametric design in creating customizable public benches. - **Adaptive Furniture:** The variable nature of the 'Urban Adapter' benches highlights the potential for adaptive furniture solutions in urban environments. - **Multi-functional Seating:** The addition of features like flower buckets, billboards, and recycling containers opens up opportunities for multi-functional seating designs in public spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** The 'Urban Adapter' model showcases how architectural and design firms can embrace parametric modeling to create innovative urban furniture solutions. - **Urban Planning:** The customizable and adaptable nature of the 'Urban Adapter' benches offers potential for urban planners to optimize public seating based on specific site requirements. - **Outdoor Advertising:** The integration of billboards into the 'Urban Adapter' benches presents opportunities for the outdoor advertising industry to combine functional seating with promotional platforms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inclusive Modular Cityscape Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-bench.md) - [Modular Outdoor Space Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mass-public-bench.md) - [Bike-Friendly Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinajarro-bench.md) - [Contemporary Customization Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-benches.md) - [Sculptural Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-public-seating.md) - [Adaptable Outdoor Seat Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monom-seater-concept.md) - [Urban Structural Street Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/symbiotic-urban-furniture.md) - [Hybrid Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adaptable-sofa-system.md) - [Elegantly Airy Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-bench.md)
