# Intelligent Robotic Suitcases 'Olive' from Ikap Robotics Turns Your Luggage into a Robotic Helper By Joey Haar | Published 2016-07-12 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-suitcase References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/olive-robot-suitcase/44085/) & [oliverobotics](http://www.oliverobotics.com/) Like a gadget out of The Jetsons, Ikap Robotics is introducing a robotic suitcase called 'Olive' that can follow its owner through a crowded airport, send alerts if they are going to miss a flight, and even carry them to their gate if they get tired. In place of a typical suitcase's rolling wheels, Olive has a hoverboard-like motor connected to 3D accelerometers and gyroscope, letting it cruise without the need to be pulled along by a person (and even allowing its owner to [ride it like a Segway](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-movr)). The intelligent suitcase also uses an advanced 3D vision system to "see" its owner, incorporating Ikap Robotics' "skeleton tracker" to distinguish its owner even in a dense crowd. As if all this weren't enough, the robotic suitcase also uses a built-in scale to check if the luggage is overweight, has a powerful battery that charges portable devices, and wirelessly connects to a smartphone app which can track the bag and [remotely lock and unlock it](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qantas-x-july). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Robotic Assistance:** The development of intelligent robotic suitcases like 'Olive' opens up opportunities for integrating robotic technology in various industries to provide assistance and convenience. - **Smart Luggage:** The emergence of intelligent suitcases with advanced features such as 3D vision systems, built-in scales, and connectivity with smartphones presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the luggage industry. - **Personal Mobility:** The incorporation of hoverboard-like motors in robotic suitcases like 'Olive' signifies potential disruption in the personal mobility industry, offering a new way to navigate crowded spaces and saving energy. ### Who This Affects Most - **Travel and Tourism:** The travel and tourism industry can leverage robotic assistance to enhance customer experience, streamline airport operations, and provide personalized services. - **Consumer Electronics:** Intelligent robotic suitcases open up opportunities for the consumer electronics industry to integrate advanced technologies and create innovative luggage solutions with added functionalities. - **Transportation and Logistics:** The transportation and logistics industry can explore the disruptive potential of robotic suitcases to automate baggage handling, improve security, and optimize luggage tracking and management. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tech-Equipped Suitcase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oogo-smart-luggage.md) - [See-Through Ride-On Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airwheel-suitcase.md) - [Rideable Carry-On Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modobag-20.md) - [Spacious Cargo-Carrying Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piaggio-fast-forward-gitaplus.md) - [Customizable Backpack-Style Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roller-travel-bag.md) - [Trackable Smart Luggage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casesafe.md) - [Hoverboard-Luggage Design Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trunk-car.md) - [Unique AI Design Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rideable-aipowered-personal-assistant.md) - [Tech-Friendly Carry-On Suitcases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monos-carryon-pro-plus.md)
