# Prideful Lighting Robert Ruf's Lamp Illustrates one of the Seven Deadly Sins By Meghan Young | Published 2010-10-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-ruf References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5657140/this-vain-lamp-shines-only-on-itself) & [robertruef](http://www.robertruef.com/) Robert Ruf is one of the seven designers approached to create an interpretation of one of the seven deadly sins. The project is for the release of Austrian-based magazine Kursiv's 2010 yearbook based on the 'Die 7 Todsunden.' Focusing on the sin of pride, Robert Ruf designed a lamp that shines only upon itself. As Gizmodo notes, it's more about [form than function](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-lighting-design)--a completely poetic design. According to his site, Robert Ruf "studied until 2005 Industrial Design at the [University of applied arts Vienna](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/research-centre)," then founded Robert Rüf Industrial Design in 2007. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Poetic Design:** Exploring the intersection of form and function in innovative and artistic ways. - **Sin-inspired Art:** Creating unique and thought-provoking designs based on the concept of the seven deadly sins. - **Self-illuminating Objects:** Designing products that illuminate themselves, emphasizing individuality and self-expression. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Opportunities for artists and designers to push the boundaries of traditional art forms and create visually stunning and conceptually rich pieces. - **Home Decor:** Innovating in the home decor industry by offering unique and eye-catching lighting fixtures that serve as both functional objects and works of art. - **Magazines and Publishing:** Exploring creative collaborations with artists and designers to produce visually engaging and thematically-driven publications that captivate readers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Spiritually Inspired Artisanal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triris.md) - [Sin-Inspired Artful Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sinful-feast.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Chinese Burial Coins-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chinese-burial-coins.md) - [Contemporary Design-Forward Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-lamp1.md) - [Brutalist Bedside Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vestige-lamp.md) - [Incense-Mimicking Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incense-lamp.md) - [Cosmic-Inspired Lamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aureole.md) - [Traditional Tower-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pagoda-lamp.md)
