# Mini Photo Manipulation 'Tilt Shift' from Robert McLaughlin Features Lilliputian Landscapes By Allison Love | Published 2010-08-03 | Fashion Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-mclaughlin References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Tilt-Shift/612227) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/maclochlainn) 'Tilt Shift' is a series of photos from Robert McLaughlin which feature large-scale seascapes or objects that are made to look miniature. For example, there is a stage with ballet dancers on it wherein the dancers look like [little tiny dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pavilions-of-wonder) rather than the life-sized dancers that they are. 'Tilt Shift' plays with the [perceptions of reality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection) in such a way that the sailboats and buildings look like fake infrastructure that someone has built from a kit. Robert McLaughlin definitely plays with reality in an unusual but appealing way. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/fashion) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/stylephotography) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Miniature Photography:** Opportunities for augmented reality experiences that create realistic lilliputian landscapes and objects. - **Tilt Shift Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunities for designing unique merchandise and marketing campaigns using tilt shift art aesthetic. - **Perception Manipulation:** Applications in VR and AR technology to create immersive experiences that play with perception. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** Opportunities for photographers to create unique and eye-catching images using tilt shift techniques. - **Marketing and Advertising:** Disruptive innovation opportunities for advertising agencies to create memorable and effective campaigns using tilt shift art aesthetic. - **Virtual and Augmented Reality:** Applications in VR and AR technology to create immersive experiences that play with perception and scale, expanding the possibilities for creative expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stacked Dynamic Light Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tilt-shift-collection.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Miniature Artful Hip-Hop Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/danny-cortes.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Interactive Colorful Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-bigger-closer.md)
