# Buckyballs as Art Robert Hodgin Creates Epic Artwork With Magnetic Balls and Cylinders By Michael Hines | Published 2010-04-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-hodgin References: [blog.makezine](http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/04/math_monday_magnet_constructions.html) & [roberthodgin](http://roberthodgin.com/gaffta-transpose/) Robert Hodgin is putting my Buckyball necklace to shame with his magnetic sculptures. I considered my ability to put magnetic balls in a straight line an accomplishment until I saw these pieces. Robert Hodgin is truly a man of patience and brilliance. These geometric figures are a sight to see. I can't imagine the creativity and hard work it took to create such magnetic kickassery. I intend to buy a hat and take it off to Robert Hodgin. I revere Buckyball artists. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Geometric Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new materials and techniques to create larger and more intricate magnetic sculptures. - **Magnetic Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing interactive installations that allow viewers to manipulate and engage with magnetic artwork. - **Creative Patience:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Applying the concept of patience and perseverance to enhance problem-solving and creativity in various industries. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating magnetic materials and techniques into traditional art and sculpture practices. - **Interactive Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrating magnetic elements into interactive installations for museums, galleries, and public spaces. - **Creative Problem-solving:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Leveraging the principles of patience and creative problem-solving in industries such as technology, product design, and engineering. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Magnetic Wooden Sculpture Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-sculpture.md) - [Origami-Inspired Playful Magnetic Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trido.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Fluid Basketball-Net Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pools-and-bubblegum.md) - [Impressive DIY Terrariums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-terrarium1.md) - [Therapeutic Fidget Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/speks-magnet-balls.md) - [Mesmerizing Sand Pattern Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara.md)
