# Circling Cellphone Hubs The RING iPhone Dock Revolves for a Range of Viewing Orientations By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ring-iphone-dock References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2012/07/ring-dong-sung-jung/) & [jungdongsung](http://www.jungdongsung.com/) Most [smartphone stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acestand-2) position your handset so that it's oriented upright, but this isn't always the ideal alignment. The designer of the RING [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magsafe-iphone-stand) Dock recognized this shortcoming and came up with a product better suited for physical adaptability. A sophisticated combination of warmly stained wood and reflective polished metal make up the electronic accessory, embodying the abstract intrigue and luxurious materiality of a sculpture. When not in use, Dong Sung Jung's piece can become a decorative object in its own right. Beyond this appealing aspect of the RING iPhone Dock's appearance, the tracked [mobile phone hookup](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twelve-south-curve-nano) is the cake beneath the icing. It can be manipulated to rotate around the railed disc, offering the user a portrait, landscape or a slanted view of the device's touchscreen. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Adaptive Smartphone Stands:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop smartphone stands that can be easily adjusted for different viewing orientations. - **Luxurious Electronic Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create electronic accessories that combine high-quality materials and artistic design. - **Multi-view Mobile Phone Hookups:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design mobile phone hookups that allow users to easily switch between portrait, landscape, and slanted views. ### Who This Affects Most - **Mobile Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new designs and functionalities for smartphone stands and mobile phone hookups. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Merge technology with home decor by creating electronic accessories that double as decorative objects. - **Luxury Goods:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine high-end materials with technology to create luxurious electronic accessories. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Magsafe Phone Stand Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-phone.md) - [Spherical Smartphone Docking Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dockorb.md) - [High-End Design Smartphone Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magsafe-iphone-stand.md) - [Compact Multi-Position Smartphone Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/godonut-mini.md) - [Floating Monitor-Mounted Tech Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/line-linestand.md) - [Smartphone Ring Grip Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanopop-magsafe.md) - [Freestanding Smartphone Dock Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jteman-phone-stand-and-speaker.md) - [Gesture Control Smartphone Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rimo-phone-holder.md) - [Spherical Wireless Charging Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-dockorb.md)
