# Rusted Cantilevered Homes 'Rimrock' Offers a Vista of Pacific Northwestern Forests By Joey Haar | Published 2018-05-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rimrock References: [archdaily](https://www.archdaily.com/894109/rimrock-olson-kundig) The obvious benefits of isolated living quarters are the natural surroundings, and 'Rimrock' is an artfully designed home that offers spectacular views of the [dense forests around Spokane, Washington](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/more-cabin). The home is nestled into the hills of a rural forest, though its modern design isn't what one would expect from what's essentially a country cottage. From a design perspective, Rimrock is strikingly modern. It is primarily covered in either [pre-rusted steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/river-hills-residence) or glass, creating a juxtaposition of pure cleanliness and rugged roughness, and its [upper story dramatically cantilevers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/levitae-house) out across a gap in the landscape. Not only is this cantilevering aesthetically appealing in and of itself, but it also provides an excellent view of the forests beyond.
