The lamp was created by Japanese designer Jun Yasumoto. He came up with the idea when attempting to harness the properties of lampshade fabric to make a simple fixture that bounces light to produce a softened tone and creates a warm, [ambient atmosphere](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp). Utilizing a simple construction process, the frame can be rotated around the bulb to modulate the position of light so that the illuminated area is localized or expanded to your liking. Although some people might think it looks more like something you would encounter in a dentist's office, the [minimalistic design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20) and distinct appearance of the Rim Lamp ensures it a place among eclectic furniture collections of hipsters everywhere.
