# Contemporary Paper-Like Chandeliers The Rhizome Suspension Lamp Resembles a Mobile By Meghan Young | Published 2012-01-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhizome-suspension-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/rhizome-by-matali-crasset/) & [arturo-alvarez](http://arturo-alvarez.com/en/product/rh04) Although the [Rhizome](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-sharp) Suspension Lamp may look like it is made out of paper, it is actually crafted out of steel. A [modern chandelier](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tamar-grande-chandelier), this light fixture resembles a mobile. It has a basic shape that is mimicked throughout. The central spine fountains up and outwards to hold similar shapes, creating a cascading effect that is both beautiful and intricate. Designed by Matali Crasset for Arturo Alvarez, the Rhizome Suspension Lamp may be intricate, but it has a very minimal aesthetic due to its basic palette. It is available in two colorways: white and yellow or white and silver. The Rhizome Suspension Lamp is also available in different heights so as to better accommodate various households. Sophisticated and fun, the Rhizome Suspension Lamp will add a sense of whimsy to any home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Contemporary Steel Chandeliers:** Opportunity for designers to create chandeliers with a modern twist using unconventional materials like steel. - **Minimalist Lighting Design:** Unleash the potential for lighting designers to create intricate but minimalistic designs for modern households. - **Customizable Lighting Fixtures:** Venture into the possibility of creating adjustable lighting fixtures to cater to households with specific needs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting Industry:** Innovation opportunities for lighting manufacturers to create unique lighting fixtures that combine elegance and modernity. - **Interior Design Industry:** Opportunity for interior designers to integrate contemporary chandeliers into modern households. - **Metalworking Industry:** The possibility of expanding market reach for the metalworking industry by experimenting with unconventional materials for lighting fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Origami-Inspired Suspended Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-pendant-light.md) - [Recycled Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zbozhzha-pendant-light.md) - [Dynamic Hand-Blown Glass Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polaris.md) - [Metal Thread Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nest-lamp.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Matte White Dynamic Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2097-chandelier.md) - [Suspended Origami-Like Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-light.md) - [Dynamic Artful Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ghost-chandelier.md) - [Jewel-Inspired Chandelier Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pearl-chandelier.md)
