# Solitary Tundra Residences The Reykjavik House is a Cozy Retreat Amid an Icy Landscape By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-08-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reykjavik-house References: [blog.leibal](http://blog.leibal.com/interiors/residential/reykjavik-house/) & [moomoo.pl](http://moomoo.pl/projects2.php?id=262&lang=1&cat=26) It's hard to imagine a dwelling more suited to this splendid snowscape than the Reykjavik House. Planted within a [vast and flat setting in Iceland](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-vipp-guesthouse), the residence looks particularly well-matched to the whitewashed ground in the winter months. A modernist's dream, the MOOMOO Architects creation is ravishingly rectangular with a bright colorless coating of paint over its entire exterior. Thick walls shelter the warm interior on two sides, turning and continuing across the roof to visually anchor the abode to its plot. The two long facades of the [remote retreat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caju-house) appear remarkably penetrable with sweeping faces of floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors. With just four rooms and a relatively open-plan arrangement, the [magnificently minimalist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus) Reykjavik House is a modern Miesian haven. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 85% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Architecture:** The Reykjavik House showcases the trend of minimalist architecture with its simple and clean design. - **Remote Retreats:** The concept of remote retreats is growing in popularity, as seen in the Reykjavik House which offers a cozy and secluded living space amid a beautiful landscape. - **Sustainable Design:** With its well-insulated walls and energy-efficient features, the Reykjavik House exemplifies the trend towards sustainable design in residential architecture. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** The architectural industry can explore new opportunities in minimalist design and remote retreats like the Reykjavik House. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can consider creating and marketing remote retreat properties that offer a unique and tranquil living experience, as demonstrated by the Reykjavik House. - **Green Building:** The green building industry can incorporate the sustainable design principles of the Reykjavik House into their projects, focusing on energy efficiency and environmentally friendly materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mountain Courtyard Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ski-house.md) - [Hilltop Modern Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cloud-house.md) - [Compact White-Painted Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whitepainted-modern-home.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Snow Mountain Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snowfall-house.md) - [Coastal Island Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasparakisfriel.md) - [Contemporary Arctic Red Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/simonsson-house.md) - [Coastal Summer Calm Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hors.md) - [Minimal Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caju-house.md)
