# Spinning Phone Concepts The RevOlve Concept Phone Charges via Kinetic Energy By Michael Hines | Published 2011-05-03 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/revolve-concept-phone References: [tuvie](http://www.tuvie.com/revolve-kinetic-phone-improves-the-life-cycle-of-the-mobile-phone/) & [dadastuff](http://www.dadastuff.com/projects/2756430#1) Phone chargers may become a thing of the past thanks to designs like the RevOlve concept phone. The RevOlve concept phone is a phone that charges using kinetic energy generated by spinning the phone around your finger. The phone is designed specifically to be spun with a large hole punched out in its bottom which can also be used to attach the RevOlve to a keychain or to a carabiner. As for the phone's interface, I could see it being touchscreen, although the controls would be very cramped. I think the most important feature of this phone is that it eliminates the [wall charger completely](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phone-toaster). While wall chargers aren't the Earth's biggest polluters, they are still plugged into the grid. When you add up all the millions of cellphones around the world, you'll be surprised to see how much electricity is actually being used. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Kinetic Phone Charging:** RevOlve concept phone charges via kinetic energy, providing an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the phone industry and energy storage industry. - **Portable Phone Design:** RevOlve concept phone's keychain/carabiner attachment feature creates an opportunity for innovation in the fashion and accessory industry. - **Wall Charger Elimination:** RevOlve concept phone eliminates the need for wall chargers, which creates an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the sustainable energy industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Phone Industry:** RevOlve concept phone's design creates an opportunity for innovative phone designs and features. - **Energy Storage Industry:** RevOlve concept phone's kinetic charging system creates an opportunity for innovation in energy storage technology. - **Fashion and Accessory Industry:** RevOlve concept phone's keychain/carabiner attachment feature creates an opportunity for creating new phone accessories and product lines. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Future-Facing Charging Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wireless-charger-concepts.md) - [Kinetic-Friendly Power Banks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/last-resort-power-bank.md) - [Display-Equipped Smart Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dino-charger.md) - [Shifting Orientation Smartphone Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartphone-stand-charger.md) - [Intentional Disconnection Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/share-power.md) - [Vibrant Lanyard Charging Cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lanyard-charging.md) - [Power-Providing Smartphone Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solove-power-bank.md) - [Rotating Button Panel Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phone-one.md) - [Crank-Powered Wireless Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mechanical-energy-harvesting-combo.md)
