# Stuffed Animal Mutilations Reverse Taxidermy Will Have You Pondering the Ethics of Tormenting Toys By Jason Soy | Published 2011-06-01 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reverse-taxidermy References: [cakeheadlovesevil.wordpress](http://cakeheadlovesevil.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/reverse-taxidermy/) & [reversetaxidermy.wordpress](http://reversetaxidermy.wordpress.com/robert/) Taxidermy's already a quirky activity as it is, but when you try to animate an inanimate object a la Frankenstein, you get [strangeness](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amazing-digital-circus) like this reverse taxidermy [stuffed lion toy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urupochachan). Robert, a contributor to the Wordpress blog Reversetaxidermy, is responsible for the creation of this peculiar item. As you can see through the sequential images, Robert was able to fashion this [living dead lion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2025-halloween-plushies) by cutting a slit in the lion's neck using a pair of scissors and then stuffing what appears to be ground meat into the new orifice. The juxtaposition of the lion's cutesy expression and the grotesqueness of the minced meat makes the final reverse taxidermy product quite macabre. Though fascinating, I think I'm going to avoid seeing what other reverse taxidermy creations are out there. I don't think I have the stomach for it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 8% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Reverse Taxidermy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the market for unconventional taxidermy techniques that create unique, macabre creations. - **Animate Inanimate Objects:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop technologies or techniques that bring inanimate objects to life, blurring the line between reality and fantasy. - **Quirky Taxidermy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create a niche market for eccentric taxidermy designs that appeal to individuals looking for unique and unconventional decor. ### Who This Affects Most - **Taxidermy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Revolutionize the traditional taxidermy industry by introducing unconventional techniques and materials. - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Merge art and technology to create interactive installations that challenge our perceptions of the animate and inanimate. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Redefine the home decor industry with quirky taxidermy designs that cater to individuals seeking distinctive and eye-catching pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Anatomical Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giant-skull-with-hidden-organs.md) - [Creepy Severed Hand Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wednesday-thing.md) - [Hyper-Realistic Flesh Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito.md) - [Auto Cartoon Plushies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformers-reversible-plushies.md) - [Wild Animal-Decorated Gowns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/schiaparelli-lion-head.md) - [Futuristic Museum Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unnatural-history-museum-of-singapore.md) - [Adult-Targeted Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/build-a-bear-after-dark.md) - [Unique Hybrid Mystery Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/animal-x-vegetable-gachapon.md) - [Recordable Stuffed Animals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dubido-factory.md)
