# Reshaping Nature Square Tree Trunks for Modern Efficiency By Alex Covert | Published 2008-12-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reshaping-nature-square-tree-trunks References: [treehugger](http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/12/we-need-square-trees.php) & [drawmeasheep](http://www.drawmeasheep.com/) Millions of years of evolution have selected the round shape of tree trunks. Maybe it's the way wind blows around a tree, helping it maintain its temperature or moisture content. Maybe it allows trees to sway in the wind, their seeds falling to the ground. Whatever the reason, [tree trunks are round](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/box-set). It would be nice, however, if they weren't--if they were, say, [square](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superwood). There would be less [milling waste](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no1-common) and they would stack nicely, making storage and transportation more efficient. Two Belgium-based designers, known collectively as DRAW ME A SHEEP, like the idea too. Here are some photos taken as part of their NATURE V2.01 project. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Square Tree Trunks:** The trend of using square tree trunks can lead to more efficient milling waste reduction and improved storage and transportation. - **Efficient Storage and Transportation:** The trend of square tree trunks can drive innovation in improving storage and transportation methods for various industries. - **Reducing Milling Waste:** The trend of utilizing square tree trunks presents an opportunity to reduce milling waste and improve sustainability in the timber industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Timber Industry:** The timber industry can explore the use of square tree trunks to optimize milling waste reduction and streamline operations. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Square tree trunks can disrupt the furniture manufacturing industry by enabling more efficient storage, transportation, and creative design possibilities. - **Logistics and Supply Chain:** The logistics and supply chain industry can benefit from the trend of square tree trunks through improved storage and transportation efficiency. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Organized Containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tronco.md) - [Sustainable Growth Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treesoil.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Tree-Surrounding Mass-Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-courtyard-house.md) - [Organic Striking Tower Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leaves.md) - [Modern Rounded Treehouse Pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burl-treehouse.md) - [Trapezoidal Concrete Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ksa-studen.md) - [Wooden Arch Design Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-forest-datum.md) - [Olive Tree-Centric Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twentieth-house.md)
