# Waterfall Bath Mats The Reservoir Rug Transitions Fluidly from Wall to Floor By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-09-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reservoir-rug References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2013/09/18/reservoir-rug-by-dean-brown-done.php) & [mrdeanbrown](http://www.mrdeanbrown.co.uk/ReservoirRug.htm) A rug displayed on the wall is typically called a tapestry, but that's not what the Reservoir Rug is. This extraordinary floor covering seems to cascade from a vertical position to a horizontal one in a way that makes it unusually and beautifully sculptural. Mr. Dean Brown's design brings an enchanting quality to carpet -- an interior fixture or accessory that rarely inspires observation or appreciation. He has placed three stepped ledges against the wall, covered them in lovely [gradient-blue textiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug-design) and carried slender sections down in strips to resemble a [multi-tiered waterfall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aqua-gallery). It seems to pool at the base in a broad semicircular mat. The Fabrica Reservoir Rug asks the material to behave differently than usual, expressing some wonderful physical and aesthetic features that it rarely has the opportunity to do. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Vertical-to-horizontal Transition Decor:** Designing decor that transitions fluidly from a vertical to horizontal position is an opportunity for a unique multi-functional art piece. - **Textile Innovation in Interior Design:** Exploring new ways for textiles to function can lead to creating beautiful and functional interior design pieces. - **Sculptural Rugs:** Designing sculptural rugs as art pieces for interior spaces can elevate the aesthetic of a room. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Innovative textile designs can provide a new avenue for interior designers to create unique and beautiful spaces. - **Art:** Designing unique multi-functional art pieces can create new opportunities for artists and art collectors. - **Textile Manufacturing:** Creating new textile products through innovative designs that are functional and beautiful for interior use can open new markets for textile manufacturers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Liquified Persian Textile Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/say-touche.md) - [Sculptural Seating Carpets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rondin.md) - [Dynamic Flatwoven Carpet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matter-colection.md) - [Drought-Awareness Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dryland-rug.md) - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Season-Inspired Rug Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistic-rug-range.md) - [Floral-Inspired Home Rug Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magical-garden.md) - [Opulent Area Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winter-collection-1.md) - [Abstract Geometric Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discorectangle.md)
