# Organically Shaped Sofas The Repose Sofa by OKHA Adopts an Unusual Shape By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2021-12-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repose-sofa References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2021/12/17/repose-sofa-okha-twentieth-dezeen-showroom/) To support natural circulation within an unusually proportioned space, South African interior design studio OKHA came up with the design for the Repose sofa. Available through Twentieth gallery, this [organically shaped sofa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biboni-sofa) was initially designed for a coastal villa that needed custom furniture to make the most of the space available. What started as a loose notebook sketch turned into a [wooden-framed sculpture with plush foam seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/noom-hello-sofa). OKHA creative director Adam Court says, "Aside from its physical, visual features, which I find sensual, feminine, and very human, the sofa is well-conceived in terms of ergonomics and practicality." Repose is a design that can be found in five different sizes to suit similar spaces with size constraints and it can be paired with [matching ottomans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poet-sofa), and brass or wood accents. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 95% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 11% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Organic Shaped Furniture:** Designing furniture with unconventional shapes that match a space's unique dimensions allows for more comfortable, practical, and visually-arresting pieces. - **Custom Furniture Design:** Creating bespoke furniture for specific spaces, like coastal villas with unique size limitations, offers interior designers and furniture makers ample opportunities for creative and practical expression. - **Mixed Materials:** Combining unexpected materials like wood and brass within furniture design can create unique and appealing contrasts that can be used to enhance the beauty of the furniture, as well as the space it occupies. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design & Decor:** Interior design industry professionals can take inspiration from organically shaped sofas to create unique designs that promote natural circulation within a given space. - **Furniture & Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturing companies can offer custom design services to customers seeking unique pieces that are tailor-fit to their spaces and specific preferences. - **Home & Housewares:** Home and houseware retailers can take advantage of demand for mixed material pieces in furniture design to feature unique, eye-catching options for their customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Organic Contour Couch Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siwa-sofa.md) - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md) - [Flexible Landscape-Like Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airberg-sofa-collection.md) - [Curvy Segmented Outdoor Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/segmented-outdoor-sofa.md) - [High-Back Embracing Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozmo-hug.md) - [Oblong Color-Blocked Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meritalia-morphologica-collection.md) - [Voluptuous Texture Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bretz-balaao.md) - [Enveloping Sofa Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perron-pillo.md) - [Rounded Modular Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smooth-sofa.md)
