# Double Extension Homes This Renovated Ranch House Boasts Two Floating Sections Connected by Glass By David Ingram | Published 2015-11-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/renovated-ranch References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/mid-century-ranch-adds-new-addition-plus-renovation/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [terryandterryarchitecture](http://www.terryandterryarchitecture.com/) Terry & Terry Architecture designed this renovated ranch home that features an open interior and a curved glass extension separating two split volume extensions. The Bal House is located in Menlo Park, California and began as a mid-century ranch house. This new renovation included several updates like the addition of a new single storey and several extra decorative touches. The renovated ranch was transformed into two separate volumes, extending from the original structure. A curved glass wall was built where the two volumes connect to create an outdoor void that brings the natural world inside. A steel bay window looking outward from the original building provides a splendid view of the street, and a new deck space was given a concrete bench that mirrors the look of the building's facade. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.7/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Open Interior Design:** The trend of open interior design presents an opportunity for innovative furniture layouts and flexible living spaces. - **Curved Glass Architecture:** The use of curved glass walls in architecture offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for creating visually stunning and unique building designs. - **Renovated Ranch Homes:** The trend towards renovating ranch homes provides an opportunity for innovative design solutions that blend modern aesthetics with the charm of traditional architecture. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** The architecture and design industry can harness the trend of open interior design and curved glass architecture to create cutting-edge and visually appealing structures. - **Furniture and Home Decor:** The furniture and home decor industry can capitalize on the trend of open interior design to offer customizable and multifunctional furniture pieces that optimize space utilization. - **Construction and Renovation:** The construction and renovation industry can leverage the trend of renovating ranch homes to provide innovative construction techniques and materials that enhance both functionality and aesthetics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Concrete Modern Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/t-house-extension.md) - [Reimagined Retro Californian Ranch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/destination-eichler.md) - [Illuminated Curved Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cereus-house.md) - [Hillside Mid-Century Renos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasadena-hillside-home.md) - [Renovated Cantilevered Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rollingwood-modern.md) - [Timber-Clad Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thornbury-house.md) - [Modernized Californian Bungalow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brunswick-west-house.md) - [Trapezoidal Residential Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reciprocal-house.md) - [Tranquil Subdued House Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heliotrope-architects.md)
