# Security-Enhancing Robot Vacuums Roomba's Remote Check-In Feature Adds a Security Feature By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2023-04-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/remote-checkin References: [homesupport.irobot](https://homesupport.irobot.com/s/article/78030) & [digitaltrends](https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/roomba-remote-check-in-beta/) As part of a new beta feature for iOS devices in the United States, [iRobot](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roomba-combo-j9) is introducing the Remote Check-In feature for the [Roomba](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2in1-roomba) j7/j7+ and Roomba combo. Signing up for this feature helps robot vacuum owners get more value by being able to check in on their home when they are away, and get extra peace of mind. Since Roomba is first and foremost a robot vacuum cleaner, vacuuming takes priority over streaming but once it has finished its regularly scheduled cleaning missions, the device will commence livestreaming like a security camera. With the robot vacuum cleaner stationed in the right spot in the home, it has the potential to remove the need for an indoor security camera. And in addition to offering check-ins from its dock, the device can be programmed to travel to different viewpoints in the home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 15% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Remote Check-in Feature for Home Security:** The Roomba's remote check-in feature has the potential to disrupt the home security industry by offering an alternative to indoor security cameras. - **Robot Vacuum Cleaners as Home Security Devices:** Robot vacuum cleaners like Roomba j7/j7+ and Roomba combo have the potential to disrupt the home security industry by offering an all-in-one solution for both cleaning and security concerns. - **Multi-purpose Home Appliances:** The introduction of features like Remote Check-In in robot vacuum cleaners presents an opportunity for companies to create more versatile home appliances that combine multiple functions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Security:** The Roomba's Remote Check-In feature has the potential to disrupt the indoor security camera industry. - **Home Appliances:** The Roomba's Remote Check-In feature and multi-functional capabilities present an opportunity for companies in the home appliances industry to expand their offerings and create new products. - **Robotics:** The integration of security features in robot vacuum cleaners like the Roomba j7/j7+ and Roomba combo suggests a growing market for innovations in home robotics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Automated Low-Maintenance Robot Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roomba-combo-j9.md) - [Advanced 2-in-1 Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2in1-roomba.md) - [Smart Screen Vacuum Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redkey-r20.md) - [Robotic Vacuum Range Updates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/irobots-new-robovacs.md) - [Home-Monitoring Robot Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-bespoke-ai-jet-bot-steam-ultra.md) - [Modern Smart Vacuum Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-vacuum-cleaners.md) - [Automatic Maintenance Robot Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roomba-combo-10-max.md) - [Automated Coverage Robot Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roomba-max-705-combo.md) - [Stair-Climbing Robot Vacuums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roborock-saros-rover.md)
