A group of scientists and innovators in Europe have collaborated to develop an innovative app that can help relieve back pain by empowering people suffering from the ailment with the information, guidance and decision-making services that they need to manage the issue.

The 'selfBACK' mobile app isn't merely a repository of common knowledge and scientific information about back pain, but rather provides highly personalized advice as well as treatment plans and exercise suggestions that suit each user.

When patients first log in, they have to complete a survey about their back pain and other lifestyle-related matters. The app's machine learning algorithms then develop a customized treatment plan.

While this mobile app is not claimed as a silver bullet to be able to relieve back pain, it offers tremendous value as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to alleviate some of the suffering of this widespread and unpleasant problem.
