# Cozy Lakeside Saunas This Relaxing Sauna is Made to Resemble the Inside of a Grotto By Christopher Magsambol | Published 2015-10-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relaxing-sauna References: [freshome](http://freshome.com/lakeside-grotto-sauna/) & [partisanprojects](http://www.partisanprojects.com/grotto-sauna/) When one thinks of a [relaxing sauna](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tyto), a pretty well-known image of a dark, boxy structure comes to mind. Situated on a private island just north of Toronto, this sauna presents a bright and cozy alternative. Architecture firm Partisans created this sauna on a private island, meant to look like the inside of a grotto. The sea and cave influence is clear when looking at both the shape and design of the sauna's interior. Wood paneling with fluid curves is used to line the inside, which is sharply contrasted with a bay window that provides panoramic views of the water. Rough, worn planks create the [rugged exterior](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-sauna) meant to insulate the relaxing lakeside sauna. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 85% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Grotto-style Architecture:** Architectural firms can explore designing more structures with fluid curves to mimic the inside of a grotto, potentially disrupting traditional designs. - **Sauna with Panoramic Views:** Sauna manufacturers can innovate designs that utilize panoramic windows with breathtaking views to offer more relaxing experiences. - **Rugged Exterior Designs:** Designers and manufacturers can experiment with rough and worn wood planks to create more aesthetically-pleasing exteriors for saunas. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can use the concept of grotto-style architecture in the design of other structures such as hotels, resorts and even homes, disrupting traditional designs. - **Hospitality:** Hotels and resorts can incorporate saunas with panoramic views as part of their wellness and relaxation amenities, providing a unique and memorable experience to their guests. - **Manufacturing:** Sauna manufacturers can experiment with rugged exterior designs to create more aesthetically pleasing and personalized saunas that cater to customers looking for a unique, rustic look and feel. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Floating Sauna Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watercave.md) - [Communal Wooden Peninsula Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hotspot.md) - [View-Overlooking Portable Wooden Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saunabivak.md) - [Timber Sauna Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-sauna.md) - [Reflection-Inducing Floating Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trosten-floating-sauna.md) - [Architectural Home Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-luminar.md) - [Modern Mobile Sauna Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquila-sauna.md) - [Portable Luxury Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermowood-minicube-sauna.md) - [Shipping Container Floating Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fjord-floating-sauna.md)
