The in-store dispensers would work by having shoppers bring their own containers to be filled with their choice of instant coffee, but are presently being trialled with the brand's [Purina](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recyclable-pet-food-pouches) cat food. The dispensers address the brand's commitment to reducing packaging, while also making it easy for consumers to access the products they need most. The Nestlé refillable coffee dispensers were explained further by R&D Packaging Lead at Nestlé Hélène Lanctuit who said, "Packaging plays a key role in maintaining food safety during a product’s shelf life. This means that whenever new packaging systems are explored we need to ensure that our products can be delivered to consumers in a safe and hygienic manner. These dispensers are novel because they incorporate smart technology which allows us to ensure product safety, and also guarantee the freshness and traceability of our products.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 84% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Business](https://www.trendhunter.com/business) > [Retail](https://www.trendhunter.com/retail) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Refillable Coffee Dispensers:** The trend of refillable coffee dispensers is gaining popularity as a sustainable and convenient solution to reduce single-use packaging. - **Smart Packaging Technology:** Incorporating smart technology in packaging systems to ensure product safety, freshness, and traceability is a trend that is revolutionizing the packaging industry. - **Sustainable Packaging Solutions:** The demand for sustainable packaging solutions is a trend that is driving the transformation of the packaging industry and opening up opportunities for innovative and eco-friendly products. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Food and Beverage Industry:** The food and beverage industry can benefit from adopting refillable dispensers that promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact. - **Packaging Industry:** The packaging industry can leverage smart technology to create innovative packaging systems that ensure product safety, freshness, and traceability. - **Retail Industry:** The retail industry can utilize sustainable packaging solutions to meet the increasing demand from consumers for eco-friendly products and reduce their carbon footprint. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Product Refill Vending Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/refillable-vending-machines.md) - [Sustainable SmartBrew Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dolce-gusto-neo.md) - [Recyclable Paper-Made Coffee Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recyclable-coffee-packaging.md) - [BYO Bottle Drink Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/refilled-refiller-stations.md) - [Versatile Soluble Coffees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nestle-soluble-coffee.md) - [Sustainably Packaged Coffee Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/singleserve-coffee-bags.md) - [Premium Instant Coffee Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nescaf-instant-coffee.md) - [Plant-Inspired Coffee Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lor-coffee-packaging.md) - [Recyclable Pet Food Pouches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recyclable-pet-food-pouches.md)
