# Otherworldly Projection Installations The Infinity Room by Refik Anadol Offers a Trippy Experience By Meghan Young | Published 2016-02-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/refik-anadol References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/3055997/this-infinity-room-traps-you-inside-a-prison-of-pixels) & [refikanadol](http://www.refikanadol.com/) Art is immersive in various ways, yet Refik Anadol has created an experience that will make people feel as though they've entered an alternate universe in which it's impossible to know what's up and what's down. Currently on display at the Zorlu Performing Art Center in Istanbul, it is created using [pixel projection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow). Dubbed Infinity Room, Refik Anadol's installation is a 12-minute work that specifically "uses 3-D projection mapping to illuminate the walls of a white room, with careful consideration of its geometry ensuring the images don’t stretch or warp oddly along the surface," reports [Fast Co Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-outdoor-furniture). It also uses two mirrors on the ceiling and floor in order to make the experience truly trippy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Live Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/livearts) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Immersive Art Installations:** Creating interactive and mind-bending experiences through innovative projection mapping techniques. - **Trippy Experiential Art:** Using 3-D projection mapping and reflective surfaces to transport viewers into an alternate reality. - **Geometry-driven Projection Art:** Using careful geometry considerations to prevent distortion and create visually stunning projections. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** Exploring new ways to engage and captivate audiences through immersive and transformative art installations. - **Entertainment:** Creating unique and awe-inspiring experiences for visitors by combining technology and artistic expression. - **Event Spaces:** Enhancing event venues with cutting-edge projection mapping techniques to create memorable and surreal atmospheres. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Immersive Light Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Colorful Patterned Infinity Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/i-spend-each-day-embracing-flowers.md) - [Interactive Light Experience](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/every-wall-is-a-door.md) - [Immersive Digital Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-reel-store.md) - [Mirrored Hall Visual Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/internamente.md) - [Colossal AI Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-artwork.md) - [Experimental Immersive Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasis-immersion.md) - [Sensorially Immersive Art Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phenomena-abu-dhabi.md) - [Boundless Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frameless-experience.md)
