Reef is a fantastic installation in New York that simulates the swaying of a [living underwater coral reef](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reef-1). Designed by Rob Ley and Joshua Stein, the [walk-through display](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radius-transformation-pavilion) is at Storefront Art and Architecture all summer until August 1, 2009.

The exhibit employs a material technology called SMS, or Shape Memory Alloys. The metal used is highly temperature sensitive which creates the automated [kinetic movement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow) of the white flaps as people move throughout the structure.
