# Recycled Tech For Animals Eco-Friendly Mac Birdhouses Made of Old Computers By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-01-14 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycling-old-computers-eco-friendly-macbirdhouses References: [appleinsider](http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/05/21/offbeat_news_apples_old_macs_are_for_the_birds.html) Macadamia farmer Rex Harris turns old Macintosh computers into birdhouses. The Australian environmentalist owns Piccadilly Park where he’s launched on an intensive wetland restoration project encouraging rainforest trees on the land. The trees attract birds. The birds act as predators to keep undesirable insects in check. This, in turn, reduces the need for pesticides. All those birds need homes, so Harris decided to take [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-computer-concept)’s eco-commitment to new heights. He guts old Mac Plus and Mac Classic cases and modifies them to use as birdhouses on his farm. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Eco-friendly Tech:** Opportunity for using recycled technology to create environmentally friendly products. - **Sustainable Agriculture:** Integration of eco-friendly practices in agriculture to reduce the need for pesticides. - **Upcycling:** Repurposing old tech components to create innovative products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Technology:** Potential for incorporating recycled tech components into new, eco-friendly products. - **Agriculture:** Implementation of sustainable practices in farming to promote natural pest control. - **Home and Garden:** Demand for unique and environmentally friendly products like tech-based birdhouses. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Observation Wooden Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domik-ptashki.md) - [Nostalgic Desktop Computer Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macintosh-computer-concept.md) - [Dual-Camera Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdfy-nest.md) - [Sustainable Repurposed Plastic Mouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microsoft-ocean-plastic-mouse.md) - [Birdhouse-Integrated Address Signs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/our-common-house.md) - [Home Exterior Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/numbird.md) - [Educational Linoleum Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elvi-birdhouse.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Biodegradable Wildlife Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biodegradable-wildlife-habitat.md)
