# Recycled Plastic Islands Netherlands Architects Create Concept of Floating Eco Island By Katherinev123 | Published 2010-04-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycled-plastic-island References: [whim.nl](http://www.whim.nl/) Is it possible to take all of the plastic currently [floating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquapraa) in the Pacific Ocean and turn it into a recycled plastic island? Netherlands-based Whim Architects sure seem to think so. These creative architects envision an eco-friendly island the size of Hawaii, created out of recycled plastic. The recycled plastic island would also have [seaweed cultivation as a food resource](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natnov-bioscience) and homes made out of recycled plastic as well. While the idea is a little extraordinary, you can't help but applaud the architects for their good intentions as well as their colorful imagination. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Recycled Plastic Islands:** Create new opportunities for sustainability and waste management through the development of floating eco islands made from recycled plastic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can embrace eco-friendly designs and explore the potential of recycled plastic in building materials and structures. - **Waste Management:** The recycling industry can innovate by exploring ways to convert plastic waste into useful and sustainable solutions like floating islands. - **Food Production:** Seaweed cultivation can be seen as a potential alternative food resource, opening up possibilities for sustainable agriculture and aquaculture industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Recycled Plastic Floating Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mast.md) - [Recycled Plastic Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycled-plastic-tiny-home.md) - [Upcycled Building Blocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plaex-building-systems-inc.md) - [Recycled Plastic Decor Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plastplan-design-studio.md) - [Eco-Friendly Island Paradises](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corona-island-1.md) - [Recycled Plastic Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bristol-plastic-factory.md) - [Floating Recycled Tennis Courts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parley-and-adidas.md) - [Recycled Plastic Furniture Ranges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nassau-collection.md) - [Plastic Bottle-Made Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caroline-chaptini.md)
