The core design philosophy centers on creating an immersive, educational environment for children that prioritizes interaction with the natural world through entirely non-powered facilities and structures built predominantly from timber. Key innovative strategies for XISUI Design's large-scale recreational landscape project include a sophisticated natural rainwater management system that utilizes the site’s elevation changes to channel surface runoff through play areas and into storage zones. The design also emphasizes a cohesive material palette of logs, bark, and gravel, and is organized into distinct zones tailored to different age groups. This serves to offer a variety of activities intended to stimulate physical, sensory, and social development through engagement with the terrain and natural elements.
