# Paper Butterfly Artworks Rebecca Coles Creates Nature-Inspired Eco-Friendly Sculptures By Meghan Young | Published 2012-05-30 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rebecca-coles References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/rebecca-coles-butterfly-paper-cut-designs) & [rebeccajcoles](http://www.rebeccajcoles.co.uk/) While Rebecca Coles' beautiful [paper butterflies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flutterbox) would be enough to reel in an appreciative audience, she has taken them a step further by arranging them into [large scale art installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time) that often take up whole walls of the galleries they are placed in. Mainly working within a cyclical pattern, which is appropriate considering the nature influence each piece has, Rebecca Coles is a detailed paper artist. Based in the United Kingdom, Rebecca Coles' creations stems from a fascination "with the process by which three-dimensional decorative forms materialise out of flat sheets of paper," according to her website. Using [recycled paper](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves), she hones in on specific colors, words and imagery to heighten the meaning of each butterfly and, ultimately, the entire sculpture. Rebecca Coles says, “My aim is to transform an every day object into a piece of work that invites the viewer to see beyond its original source.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 99% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Eco-friendly Sculptures:** Creating nature-inspired sculptures with recycled materials can disrupt the art world and encourage sustainable practices. - **Large Scale Art Installations:** Pushing the boundaries of how art can be displayed and experienced can create innovative and immersive art installations. - **Paper Artistry:** Exploring the possibilities of paper as a medium for artistic expression can lead to unique and impressive artworks. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Incorporating sustainability and new display techniques can bring a fresh perspective to traditional art and design spaces. - **Eco-friendly Products:** Collaborating with paper artists to create eco-friendly products and sculptures can offer creative and sustainable home decor options. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Using large-scale art installations as a form of experiential marketing can create memorable and impactful brand experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Intricate Fiber Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threadwork-women-redefining-fiber-arts.md) - [Vibrant Butterfly Bags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tyler-mcgillivary-2.md) - [Towering Reclaimed Wooden Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louise-durham.md) - [Artist-Designed Wallpaper](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallpaper-collection1.md)
