# Retro Luxury Flying Saucer Home Futuro To Be Sold in Paris By Going Like Sixty | Published 2007-11-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-retro-flying-saucer-home-on-the-auction-block References: [bornrich.org](http://www.bornrich.org/entry/futuro-house-to-be-sold-off-in-paris/) This vision of the [House of Tomorrow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vulcan-house) called the [Futuro](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrocore) is a white plastic house that looks like a [flying saucer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-never-hut). "It was created by a Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968, and features oval-shaped windows and a walkway up to the front, resembling that of an aircraft. The Futuro house identifies with space-architecture, summing up the characteristic themes of the Utopian structure, which consists of mobility, increased leisure time and new materials." In the 1960's, there was no doubt that we would be living in a Utopia by 2000. It was designed to be moved by helicopter and cheap enough to be mass produced. It will be sold on Tuesday at Christies in Paris for an expected $222,200-$296,200. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Retro-futurism:** Opportunity for using futuristic design elements in retro-styled products and architecture. - **Space-inspired Architecture:** Innovations in architecture taking inspiration from space travel and science fiction. - **Portable Housing:** Development of lightweight, mobile and modular housing units. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to push design boundaries by incorporating unusual shapes and materials. - **Real Estate:** Development of innovative housing solutions and increased focus on unique, niche properties for sale. - **Manufacturing:** Opportunity to create low-cost, modular housing units using new materials and production techniques. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Whimsical Futuristic Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yoohome.md) - [Futuristic Capsule House Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capsule-house.md) - [Maximalist UFO Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-saucer-coffee-table.md) - [Mechanical Legged Mobile Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobile-home-concept.md) - [Shaded Modern Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-shelter.md) - [Fly Saucer-Shaped Structural Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-never-hut.md) - [Moon-Bound Architectural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonhouse-project.md) - [Martian-Informed Inflatable Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/martian-house.md) - [War Plane-Inspired Off-Grid Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monocoque-cabin.md)
