# Nighttime Measuring Tools The Reading Ruler Measures in the Dark By Meghan Young | Published 2010-12-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reading-ruler References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/12/21/measuring-accurately-even-in-darkness/) I feel like blindly using the Reading Ruler would be like spelling "disaster" in the dark, I can do it but I probably won't like the results. Of course, sometimes a job requires work in the dark (i.e. [power outages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/4rq002003), deadlines and more), and that's when this [measuring tool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enso-tape) would come in mighty handy. Designed by Ho Sung-woon & Woo Moo-bum, the Reading Ruler is a compact gadget that features a [digital display](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/measure-tools) that reads out the units of measure. Check the Reading Ruler out in action in the video above. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 52% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Nighttime Measuring Tools:** The development of additional tools and gadgets optimized for low light or complete darkness will ease work and increase productivity in low light environments. - **Digital Measurement Devices:** The increasing use of digital displays and technology in measurement devices will increase precision and accuracy of measurements. - **Compact Measuring Devices:** Compact measuring devices will become more popular as people seek tools that can be easily transported and stored. ### Where This Applies - **Construction:** Tools such as the Reading Ruler will aid construction workers in low light conditions. - **Manufacturing:** Digital measurement devices will increase production efficiency and accuracy in manufacturing plants. - **Design:** Compact measuring devices are a valuable tool for designers who need to take measurements on the go and in tight spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Magnifying Measurement Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fun-sizes-ruler.md) - [Smart Measuring Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hozos-neorulergo.md) - [Rolling Portable Measuring Tapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neorulergo.md) - [Magnetic Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tisolver.md) - [AR Ruler Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ar-ruler.md) - [Digital Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lidar.md) - [Next-Gen Connected Tape Measures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-tape-measure.md) - [Light-Equipped Reading Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dasung.md) - [Hybrid Angled Stationary Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/25-ruler.md)
