Brit poppers Blur might have declared that "modern life was rubbish" back in 1993, but according to the [RBC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avion-rewards-1) [Canadian Painting Competition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carlton-cards) 2012, modern art certainly isn't.

From the psychedelic night garden ‘Gathering in the forest 12 am’ by Montreal’s Betino Assa to the wild imagination of Nicolas Rancellucci’s ‘Si je tue un canard, je te donnerai les plus belles plumes,’ and the trailblazing ‘Housefire’ by Corri-Lynn Tetz, the RBC competition finalists showcase just how much modern Canadian art rocks right now.

The National winner of the RBC prize will receive $25,000 and the two honorable mentions each receive $15,000. Since it’s inception in 1999, the Canadian Painting Competition has given a helping hand to many young artists, both financially and by raising their media profiles. The winners of this year's RBC competition will be announced on November 29th.
